Warner Bros. is looking to expand Jared Leto’s role as the Joker from 2016’s Suicide Squad with a starring role in his own film.
Variety reports that the movie has been greenlit as WB looks to expand the DC Cinematic Universe. What’s most notable about this is that this film is apparently distinct from last year’s report of another Joker origin movie with Scorsese producing. Variety says that WB has plans to go ahead with both movies, with the former movie being categorized under an “Origins” banner for multiple movies in the DC Cinematic Universe.
Leto is the second Suicide Squad actor to get his own spinoff, as Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn has been scheduled to get her own Birds of Prey feature soon.
A lot was said about Leto’s Joker before Suicide Squad’s release, but the final cut of the movie reduced him down to a simple cameo. Leto has expressed a desire to stretch his legs within the role.
